# Asset Tag

Assigns or updates the asset tag on a managed Mac.

#### What It Does

Sets the asset tag value on the device record in Jamf Pro using the built-in barcode scanner. Tag It! supports the following actions:

* **Assign** - scan a barcode to assign a tag to an untagged device
* **Replace** - scan a new barcode to replace the device's existing tag
* **Remove** - clear the current tag from the device entirely
* **Reassign** - if the scanned tag is already assigned to another device, move it to this one

#### How to Use

1. Open the device, tap **More** and select **Tag It!**
2. Scan a barcode or search for an existing tag
3. If the device already has a tag, choose **Replace** or **Remove**
4. If the scanned tag belongs to another device, choose **Reassign** to move it

> **Note:** Asset tags have a maximum length of 40 characters. Both 1D barcodes and QR codes are supported.
